Not always a leading skipper

Post by true_frnd on Thu Sep 18, 2008 9:02 am

David Albelda believes that Valencia's new captain does not necessarily have to be the team's leader.

Los Che are poised to engage a squad voting system in order to determine the identity of their new skipper.

Albelda,
who has served worn the skipper's armband for Valencia in the past,
echoed his belief that experience is the key component of being a
captain that leadership skills can extend beyond the lieutenant.

He said: "At times the captain is not the leader of the team."

"Sometimes the captain is there because of his seniority, not because of his character,"

"It is not important who wears the armband, what is important is that the team is going along the right path."

"Anyway, I think that we are all captains."

Raśl
Albiol has been touted as one of the names for the skipper's role and
Albelda understands that the young central defender has the attributes
required.

"He is young, Valencian, a member of the Spain squad,
he has lots of potential and is used to be a regular. He will spend
many years here," he continued.

"I am going to vote because if I leave my vote blank then I do not have the right to any opinion."

Stop trying to hit me and hit me!
