Márquez: Finnan is ready
Espanyol coach Bartolomé Márquez has confirmed that new signing Steve Finnan is ready to feature for the club.
The
Irishman moved to the Barcelona outfit on transfer deadline day but has
yet to make his Espanyol debut although he has featured for
international duty during last week's World Cup qualifiers.
"He's
had pre-season with them, and although he's not had any league games
yet he's played several international games," Márquez said.
Nevertheless, Sergio Sánchez, Finnan's rival for right back berth, looks set to hold his place for Saturday's clash with Getafe.
"(Sánchez) is playing very well, he's competed and a high level, and he'll continue," hinted the coach.
Márquez also added that the club must not moan the loss of the talismanic but injury prone midfielder Iván de la Peña.
De la Peña will be sidelined for a month after picking up an injury during his side's victory at Recreativo this weekend.
"This is a football team, and as such there are usually injuries," he argued.
"We can't complain because we have a squad of 27, so there are more players to use.
"De la Peña is a special footballer but we're not going to mourn him.
"The rest are training very well and as we're playing on Saturday we need to charge up."
